Gardiner Smith, partner in SHI Link and former Chief Business Officer of Memory Pharmaceuticals, will provide an overview of recent CNS deals that have exceeded pharma industry expectations. Drawing on personal experience, he will also discuss the intricacies of partnering high-risk products. During his tenure at Memory, Gardiner led three preclinical stage deals that had a combined upfront payment value of over $60 M US, which allowed the company to go public. ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Building on executive operating roles in leading pharma and biotech companies for over a decade, Gardiner is focused on consummating major transactions which span creative alliance structures, stages of development and a variety of technology innovations. In addition to leading over a dozen successful transactions between biotech and pharma companies, including with Human Genome Sciences, Memory Pharmaceuticals, Roche, GSK and Amgen, he has led the execution of an equal number of biotech-biotech alliances between product, antibody, and platform companies such as Affymetrix and Cambridge Antibody Technologies. The total potential up front and milestone value of buy-side and sell-side transactions in which he's had a leading role in over the last ten years exceeds $750 MM, excluding royalties. Additionally, he has been part of the transaction team for large acquisitions, such as the Glaxo purchase of Affymax for $530 MM.
