Facebook lands on MaRS

Starting in 2016, MaRS will be home to Facebook Canada’s new HQ. Facebook Canada is joining the District to tap into the innovation, ideas, and unrivalled community access offered at MaRS.

“We wanted to find space that very much reflected our culture, which is large and open and interactive and collaborative and part of something much greater than just Facebook,” Jordan Banks, Head of Facebook Canada, told media. “Our mission is to make the world more open and connected. We feel MaRS is the type of venue that will help us do that.”

Facebook’s mission fits with MaRS’ vision of attracting forward-thinking entrepreneurs and corporations eager to develop innovations that will change the world. More than 20 million Canadians use Facebook each month, with more than 1.44 billion active globally.

“We are pleased that Facebook is growing its presence in Canada, and has chosen the MaRS Centre to be part of its growth plan,” said Ilse Treurnicht, CEO, MaRS Discovery District. “In addition to being a tenant at MaRS, Facebook will be a strategic partner working with our venture services group to gain insight and access to our community of entrepreneurs and thinkers.”
