Day 2: Engaging the Supporters You Have

(Presentation) Principles of effective online communication & organizing in a 2.0 world

(Session) Effective storytelling

(Break-outs) Choose one session to go deeper:
  1. Email writing
  2. Blogging
  3. Rich Media - video / youtube / podcasting

12:45 lunch

Afternoon sessions:

(Session) Power Mapping: Choosing your tactics for fundraising, legislative, biz advocacy, public education, community building

(Break-out) Choose one session:

  1. Online for offline events - visibilty events, "houseparty" model
  2. Applying public pressure - tactical earned and paid media; branding, visibility, PR
  3. Putting It Together: Integrating YouTube, MySpace/Facebook, Blog Pitching, Online to On-the-Ground
  4. Direct Advocacy - email, phone, fax communication w/ decision makers

  1. Working with volunteers - distributed tasks to super volunteers
  2. Building online community: designing for user participation
  3. Small donor/distributed fundraising

  3. Building Support for Your Ideas and Presenting Your Data in a Compelling Way
  4. Personal Time Management

Afternoon sessions:

(Break-out) Choose one session:

  1. Usability Matters - Troubleshooting your usability issues
  2. Creating an engagement plan: how to bring your social web project to life once it launches
  3. 2.0 Advocacy Graphic Design
(Discussion) Staffing your project: inside job vs indie contractor, vendor selection & working with vendors

(Break-out) Choose one session:

  1. Test and Learn Strategies
  2. Data Management: Best Practices and Troubleshooting
  3. Process Mapping

(Small groups) Work in groups w/ faculty support to finish your Web 2.0 plan *

(Full Group) Wrap up


* In advance of the training, all participating organizations will be asked to develop a working “change team” (including executive directors and senior communications and/or fundraising staff) to set organizational intentions. Specific sessions will require participation from this change team back home, to enhance the learnings and ensure the success of the plans created.
