Carla Coelho

Carla Coelho is the coordinator for Health Venture Services at MaRS, where she is responsible for the unit’s operations and delivering key programs.
Carla has extensive experience in molecular biology. In her previous position as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in Saint Louis, Missouri, she applied cutting-edge technologies including gene editing and was heavily involved in the process of deregulating CRISPR plants. In this role Carla was also the lead coordinator of a $1.6-million grant project and coordinated outreach activities with the Girl Scouts’ Girls STEAM Ahead program to support women in science. Not to overlook a very significant achievement in her academic career, Carla is a Cheeky Scientist Associate, having completed the Cheeky Scientist training program for scientists transitioning into business.
Carla has a bachelor of science in biological science from the Universidade Federal de Alfenas and a master of science and PhD in plant physiology from the Universidade Federal de Lavras, both in Brazil.
