Have you sold your car yet?

You’ll need that money to fund your business.

This week’s Entrepreneurship 101 Lived it Lecture – where successful entrepreneurs share their experience of starting an innovative company – featured entrepreneur and MaRS Advisor Tom Rand.

“Beg, borrow and do what you gotta do”, is Tom Rand’s advice to entrepreneurs for coming up with capital to launch a startup.  Tom bootstrapped his first business, Voice Courier Inc., from the ground up and grew the company to over 100 employees in three countries.

In 2008, Tom launched a project that converted an abandoned Toronto building into North America’s greenest hotel – Planet Traveler. He most recently authored the book: “Kick the Fossil Fuel Habit: 10 Clean Technologies to Save Our World”.

During his engaging lecture, Tom offers beginning entrepreneurs insight into his own successes and the mistakes he made along the way.

Avoid making the same mistakes:

  1. File the IP
  2. Contracts mean nothing
  3. Be a part of the management team

To hear the rest of Tom’s ‘7 key mistakes’, watch the lecture video.
