At last week’s CIBC Presents Entrepreneurship 101 lecture, attendees heard Arshia Tabrizi of Tabrizi Law Office speak about the various forms of intellectual property and how they can be commercially exploited.

The degree of active questioning after the talk brings a question to my mind that I’d like to pose to the larger Entrepreneurship 101 audience: when you started your current job (whether as a graduate student, post-doc, hospital researcher/ staff or at a company) did anyone formally sit down with you to explain the importance of taking steps to protect any intellectual property you might create? For those of you in academic/hospital roles do you think that would be appropriate? I’d love to hear comments.
