With social distancing restrictions in place in many areas, November may seem bleaker than usual this year. But there are plenty of ways to make meaningful connections this month with events in the Canadian tech community.
MaRS Impact Week will give attendees a chance to meet innovators tackling the most pressing technology challenges of our time, while Communitech’s virtual job fair offers jobseekers a chance to connect with potential employers. There’s also another fintech demo day for investors to connect with startups, as well as a host of other virtual events with networking opportunities.
Here are our top picks for online tech events this November:
The world is facing enormous challenges: melting glaciers, soaring unemployment, increased inequality. With the goal of finding and adopting viable solutions to climate change and issues that have been exacerbated by the pandemic, MaRS is hosting Impact Week — five days of immersive online events, can’t-miss conversations, informative breakout sessions and more. More than 100 inspiring speakers and thought leaders — including David Frum, Margaret O’Mara, Claudette McGowan and Thomas Homer-Dixon — will discuss the most pressing technology challenges of our time and the trends and strategies that are helping build a better, more sustainable future. Attendees will also have opportunities to network with entrepreneurs, investors and policymakers from across North America. November 30 – December 4, online
The pandemic has made in-person networking a challenge, but Communitech is replicating that experience with its virtual job fair. Its Tech Jam From Home event will feature companies of all sizes looking to hire both tech and non-tech roles, with attendees able to visit digital booths, chat with company reps and join information sessions. November 12, online
Stay up-to-date on payments trends and meet fintech leaders that can keep your business on the cutting edge at the latest MaRS Fintech Demo Day. This month’s edition will feature pitches from companies that connect data systems and enable financial functions. Boss Insights, Cinchy, Dream Payments and ThinkData Works will give an overview of their businesses, and attendees can request virtual B2B meetings. November 18, online
