The top tech events in Toronto this November

Whether it’s changing the world for the better through social entrepreneurship and impact investing, or changing the tech industry through diversity and inclusion, Toronto entrepreneurs are leaders in innovation powered by purpose.

A recent poll named Canada the best country in the world for social entrepreneurs, and earlier this year Toronto was ranked one of the top cities globally for women in entrepreneurship. And with events like the Social Finance Forum, #movethedial Global Summit and the Generate Innovation Challenge finalist showcase fast approaching, November promises to be an important month for Toronto companies looking to make an impact.

Here are our top picks for Toronto tech events this November:

 

1. A conference for investors who want to put purpose in their portfolio

Why seek only financial gain, when smart investments can do so much more? Smart investments can tackle social problems, unlock new clean technologies and open the door to an economy with impact. The Social Finance Forum is Canada’s leading event for those who believe profits can be paired with purpose.

Now in its 12th year, the Forum attracts more than 600 investors, entrepreneurs, finance professionals, charity leaders and public service visionaries who are reshaping markets and ensuring that every dollar makes a difference. This year’s edition of the conference also features a specialized workshop for investors who are new to the field and just getting started with impact investing. 2. A diversity and inclusion in tech summit

#movethedial promotes the participation and leadership of all women in tech. At their annual Global Summit, they bring together an impressive roster of speakers to discuss diversity and inclusion in the tech industry. With speakers from top tech companies like Google, Facebook, Airbnb, Bumble and Microsoft, it’s sure to be an inspiring day. November 14, Roy Thomson Hall.

 

3. An energy pitch competition

Created by Ontario Power Generation in collaboration with MaRS, the Generate Innovation Challenge asked Canadians to tackle industry-wide challenges with novel energy solutions. At the finalist showcase this month, you’ll see the finalists pitch their solutions to a panel of expert judges and also hear a keynote address from Graeme Millen, who leads the energy and resource innovation efforts for Silicon Valley Bank across Canada. 4. Network with the tech community

Meet and learn from Toronto’s technology leaders and innovators at the monthly TechTO meetup, where innovators will share their expertise and experiences through five-minute TED talk-style presentations. This month’s edition features speakers from ShipperBee, OpenGravity and more. November 18, RBC Waterpark Place.

 

5. Tips for entrepreneurs expanding into a post-Brexit U.K.

Are you an entrepreneur looking to grow your business internationally? Get best practices from experts at the new international expansion series hosted by MaRS and Export Development Canada.
