Advanced Energy Centre helping to achieve new energy vision for Mexican state
7th March 2017, Jalisco Mexico – The Advanced Energy Centre (AEC) at MaRS Discovery District is pleased to announce a Memorandum of Understanding with the State of Jalisco’s Energy Agency in Mexico. This agreement signifies a commitment by the AEC and the Energy Agency to encourage closer economic ties and strengthen beneficial relations between the regions, by working to accelerate energy innovation in each respective jurisdiction.
The Mexican electricity landscape has been significantly altered since the introduction of energy reform in 2013, which aimed to lower electricity prices and increase renewable generation. There has been a complete restructuring of the sector, with deregulation leading to a wave of private investment across the country’s electricity system.
In line with these market changes, the Energy Agency was established to promote the development of a reliable, efficient and sustainable energy system for the State of Jalisco in Mexico, through technological innovation, economic promotion and exploitation of the region’s renewable energy potential.
Through this agreement, the Advanced Energy Centre and the State of Jalisco’s Energy Agency will work together to identify the most appropriate model for achieving the state’s energy objectives. Using the AEC’s systems change methodologies, the parties will collaboratively define opportunities and challenges facing the energy system, and build a comprehensive strategy for achieving Jalisco’s energy vision. The AEC will also provide the Energy Agency with curated access to innovative energy technologies, which can help the state achieve this vision.
“We are excited to be building on Premier Wynne’s mission to Mexico and Jalisco last August, by signing this important MOU with Jalisco’s Energy Agency. The Energy Agency recognizes the incredible opportunities that exist in Jalisco through adopting advanced energy technologies” said Ron Dizy, Managing Director of the AEC. “At the Advanced Energy Centre we specialize in working with key stakeholders in energy ecosystems to fundamentally change the pace of technology adoption. We are grateful and excited for the opportunity to work with Sergio Medina and his team.”
Siergo Medina, Director of the State of Jalisco Energy Agency, said, “For Jalisco’s Energy Agency, this MOU with the Advanced Energy Centre will greatly increase and foster our energy innovation initiatives, for both the public and private sectors. Nowadays, energy is playing a crucial role in Jalisco’s economic, environmental, technological and social progress. This is a strategic alliance through the energy sector that will benefit both Ontario and Jalisco.”
