Joe Greenwood is Lead Executive for Data at MaRS. Joe founded MaRS Data Catalyst as a multi-disciplinary data and business transformation practice working with innovative ventures, governments and enterprises. Joe’s background is in product management for data and analytical services with previous roles as Head of Product Development for Ordnance Survey in the U.K. and Senior Product Manager for secure real-time mobile data services at BlackBerry. Joe holds a master’s degree in geographical information science from the University of Edinburgh and an MBA from Manchester Business School. More about Joe | Email Joe


Matthias Oschinski is Director of Innovation Economics at MaRS Data Catalyst. He works with stakeholders and other research institutions to identify opportunities for data-driven research and product development to foster a vibrant innovation ecosystem. Matthias holds a PhD from Johannes-Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany, and a master’s degree from the University of Oxford, U.K. Email Matthias


Joseph Lalonde is Data Manager for MaRS Data Catalyst. He works with the data analysis and engineering group to enable access to high-quality insights. The various hats he wears include project management, aligning business requirements to data processes and building resources and capacity for the team. He also refines reporting definitions and data standards for our various partners. Joseph is a certified agile project manager and has an MBA from Schulich School of Business at York University. Melissa DodaroMelissa Smith is Product Manager on the innovation economy stream of Data Catalyst. Her focus is on the future of work, developing a solution that will help displaced workers navigate the changing employment landscape and connect them to workplaces of the future. She also oversees the development of data outputs for provincial and national ecosystem partners. Melissa holds an MBA from Ryerson University’s Ted Rogers School of Management and a BA in Psychology from the University of Ottawa. Email Melissa


Malavika Kumaran is the Research Manager at MaRS Data Catalyst. She is responsible for developing partnerships and designing collaborative research projects that align with the innovation economy. She uses data to provide better insights on entrepreneurship, as a tool to tackle systems barriers, and to inform policy decisions. David Sky comes to MaRS after working as part of a large development team creating database and data replication software. As a data analyst, he uses this background daily to organize and grow the MaRS Data Catalyst innovation economy database, and works with the team to analyze that data and turn it into useful insights. Karen Deng works on impact evaluation. She applies her experience in health policy and programming, evaluation and funding arrangement strategy to understand opportunities and challenges in monitoring and evaluation. Karen is interested in applying evaluation practices to assess, change, improve and sustain initiatives. Email Karen


Mussie Nadew is a Data Engineer who designs, implements and maintains the team’s databases and processing capabilities. He uses his data development experience to ensure that Data Catalyst’s data pipelines are running smoothly. When he isn’t coding at work, you can find him coding somewhere else. Email Mussie


Garrett Cree is a Database Business Analyst who specializes in database design and implementation, and is MaRS Data Catalyst’s in-house survey data specialist. His “extract, transform, load” procedures automate the survey data pipeline and empower the team to administer highly complex survey projects seamlessly from inception to insights. Email Garrett


Elizabeth Tice is an Associate on the Data Catalyst team. She works closely with data sharing partners to solidify relationships and understand their needs in order to build data products that inform programming decisions and communicate impact. Elizabeth also takes on a project management role, supporting team collaboration, the development of data assets and the execution of data standardization strategies with various partners. Upeksha Amarasinghe is a Data Analyst with MaRS Data Catalyst. She applies her background in math and economics to analyze data relating to the innovation economy in order to better understand this ecosystem. Email Upeksha


Sasha Sud is leading the energy projects at MaRS Data Catalyst. Currently, he’s working on bringing the right people together to implement Ontario’s Green Button and give Ontarians better and greater access to energy data. More about Sasha | Email Sasha


Melissa Felder is currently managing the shared mobility program for MaRS. Melissa has led an environmental consulting practice since 2001, delivering projects for clients across Canada in areas ranging from renewable energy and cleantech deployment to water valuation and waste resource accounting. Melissa has a master’s degree in chemical and biological engineering from the University of British Columbia and currently sits on the board of ZooShare. Email Melissa


Shahab Shahnazari the Senior Manager of Health Systems and Innovation Challenges and leads MaRS Data Catalyst’s work in the health space. This includes working with innovators and the health system to enable consumer access to their personal health information, identification of novel sources and uses for data in the health and public health context, as well as initiatives associated with aggregation of data from multiple sources. Timothy LukTimothy Luk is a Project Manager on the MaRS Data Catalyst team, who works on health data initiatives. He manages projects that enable access to consumers’ health information, allow new digital health solutions to come to market and redefine how novel data sources can support public health monitoring and interventions. Maggie Clark is an Associate working on health initiatives within MaRS Data Catalyst. She applies her experience in project management and policy to amplify patient-centric digital health solutions and help health-focused organizations discover novel ways to collect and utilize data. With a master’s degree in human nutrition from the University of Copenhagen and a specialization in chronic disease management, Maggie is keenly interested in new models of healthcare delivery. Kie GouveiaKie Gouveia is a business-minded Data Analyst working in Data Catalyst’s Innovation Economy stream. He applies analytics methodologies to uncover insights about the innovation ecosystem and, ultimately, to advance social change in Canada. For the past three years, Kie has served as Director of Analytics for a digital marketing agency based in Kitchener-Waterloo. Email Kie
