On May 30, Deb Matthews, Ontario’s Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, gave the keynote speech at the MedTech Conference held by MEDEC, the national association of the Canadian medical technology industry. Minister Matthew’s comments focused on using evidence to transform the Ontario health care system by utilizing the most innovative technologies to treat the needs of patients in new ways.

Speaking about EXCITE, Matthews urged the audience to get “products tested earlier so that when you have a good idea that meets our system’s needs, you have the evidence you need to sell into an Ontario market and a global market.”

On behalf of Reza Moridi, Minster of Research and Innovation, Matthews announced the names of the first three EXCITE companies: Rna DiagnosticsApneaDx, and Medtronic of Canada. Representatives from each company were invited to share a brief description of their health technologies that will be evaluated through the EXCITE process.
