Hamid SadriEvidence Chasm from Regulatory to HTA; Why do we need Economic Evaluation and Outcomes Research?

Guest speaker – Hamid Sadri, Director Health Economics and Access. Medtronic Canada

Launching a new technology has several steps and regulatory approval is just the beginning of a long journey of evidence generation and support. Often times, healthcare systems around the world require further economic and outcomes research data to fund or reimburse a new technology. In many jurisdictions this process is in the context of health technology assessment or HTA. The evidence chasm between the regulatory needs and the “payers” requirement often is the most limiting factor of appropriate diffusion of a new technology in the healthcare system. Planning and conducting economic evaluation alongside clinical trials or separate Outcomes research studies complement the body of evidence required by healthcare system and payers.
